McLaren's Lewis Hamilton was fastest Friday in practice for this weekend's F1 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Hamilton set the marker for the day in the final third of the session, his best lap a 1 minute 40.888 seconds, which put him 0.257 seconds up on his closest rival. Hamilton was the only man below the 1m 41s barrier.
It wasn't a completely trouble-free afternoon though for the Englishman and he could yet end up in a bit of trouble after cutting in front of Bruno Senna before darting into the pits. Senna did slow quite suddenly, but Hamilton was also out of shape. The stewards have said they will investigate the matter.
Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel meanwhile, who was quickest in the first session, came in second, with current championship leader, Fernando Alonso third, 0.169 seconds further back in his Ferrari.
Mark Webber was next up, only 0.001 seconds off P3 in his RB6, while Renault man Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa came in fifth and sixth. Massa was the last runner in the 1m 41s, although he had to sit out the final 25 minutes after stopping at turns 10 and 11 when his Ferrari F10 ran out of fuel.
Away from the top six, Vitaly Petrov managed a 1m 42.096s lap, which was good enough to put the Renault number two in front of Jenson Button. Button continued to struggle with his McLaren and again complained about the front locking up.
Force India F1 team's Vitantonio Liuzzi trailed the reigning world champion just ahead of Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher in tenth and eleventh.
Of the rest Nico Hulkenberg led the Williams charge in P12 with Adrian Sutil, Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi and his team-mate, Rubens Barrichello in 13th, 14th and 15th. Nick Heidfeld was 16th with the Toro Rosso's of Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi 17th and 18th respectively. Alguersuari missed the last 30 minutes after spinning at turn 19 and then stalling.
Towards the tail-end of the pack, Heikki Kovalainen was best of the 'new' team drivers' on a 1m 45.180s - a good effort especially as he sat out FP1, when Lotus test and reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy ran in 'his' T127.
Timo Glock took 20th for Virgin, to split the Lotus' and leave Jarno Trulli in 21st, while Lucas di Grassi and the Hispania's of Christian Klien and Bruno Senna brought up the rear. Senna's best effort was a 1m 47.434s, 0.224 seconds off his team-mate.
