Virgin Racing is to test three drivers during the Young Driver session in Abu Dhabi following the final round of the 2010 F1 season.
Test driver Luiz Razia and Jerome D'Ambrosio will both spend time at the wheel of the VR-01 – the latter having driven the car in Friday practice in four of the final five races – while youngster Rio Haryanto will sample F1 machinery for the first time having been the top Manor Motorsport driver in the new GP3 championship.
Haryanto was at the wheel of the car for the start of the test in Abu Dhabi this morning before handing the car over to D'Ambrosio for the afternoon, with Razia set to get his chance to shine on Wednesday.
“I am very excited about driving the VR-01 in a proper test at last,” Razia said, with the ban on F1 testing having limited his opportunities. “I drove it earlier in the year at the filming day in Jerez, and I also drove a Super Aguri at Estoril a few weeks ago, but a full day's testing is something different.
“I've been practising on the simulator for the whole season and it will be fantastic to get a feel for the real thing. It's been a great year working with the team and this is undoubtedly the best bit."
