Alguersuari backs Buemi

Jaime Alguersuari shows his support for Toro Rosso team-mate Sebastien Buemi
Jaime Alguersuari has backed his Toro Rosso team-mate Sebastien Buemi but has admitted that he is unsure if the Swiss driver will remain for 2011.

While the team had already confirmed that Alguersuari and Buemi would stay in place next season, the impressive performance of Daniel Ricciardo in the Young Driver test in Abu Dhabi has led to talk that the Australian could be pushed into a race seat.

With Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in place at Red Bull, the logical move for Red Bull would be to find a place at the 'junior' team instead, with team boss Franz Tost calling Buemi's future into question after stating he had 'struggled a bit' towards the end of the year [See separate story HERE].

By contrast, Alguersuari's future appears to be more secure after a solid debut season and the Spaniard insisted that Buemi deserved to stay for 2011.

"I don't know what will happen," he told Diario AS. "What I can say is that if my team-mate (Buemi) had driven a Red Bull, he would do better than Ricciardo. Without a doubt."

Alguersuari also said he was happy with he had been backed by Tost following 2010.

"I'm very proud of what he said,” the former British F3 champion reflected, "because I think I have improved this year and I intend to keep going that way."
