Minichamps has released a 1:12 diecast model of Valentino Rossi's Yamaha YZR-M1 from the 2009 Portuguese MotoGP race. Rossi's traditional annual one-off colour scheme appeared quite late in the season in 2009, at Estoril. His Yamaha YZR-M1 had a special white-and-silver livery that was created to help publicise the new FIAT Punto Evo. Unfortunately, Rossi was only able to finish the race in fourth place (in fact, he has only ever won twice in the top class with a one-off livery!).

8. Valentino Rossi 'The Yamaha Years' commemorative photoset - ?79.99:

It's the end of an era. When Valentino joined the unproven Yamaha outfit back in 2004, it shocked the paddock. Now, seven seasons later, many are shocked that he should be prepared to desert such a successful team.

This new framed photoset aims to showcase some of the highlights of Rossi's time at Yamaha, during which he secured no less than four world championships. Of course, perhaps his most memorable achievement at Yamaha was his victory at Welkom in his very first race for the team. The sport has probably never witnessed such an unexpected win and, of course, that year he went on to claim the crown, proving a little point to his previous employers along the way.

In 2005, he took the title at a canter. In 2006, some unfortunate mistakes and unreliability issues handed the trophy to Hayden, even though the American won fewer races. A year later, of course, Stoner's Ducati was simply untouchable and notwithstanding some memorable victories that season, Rossi finished in third place. For most riders, this would have been a career highlight. For Valentino, it was his worst result for Yamaha.

In 2008, he regained the title with what was, at the time, a record points tally. In 2009, Lorenzo pushed him harder but Valentino prevailed and took his fourth championship in six years. His final season, 2010, was in some ways his most remarkable. He missed four races with a broken leg, but was soon back on-form on his return and in Malaysia, he recorded his milestone 46th victory for the team.

Rossi didn't take the title in his final year, but his comeback was nevertheless the stuff of legend. All-in-all, it wasn't a bad spell that he had at Yamaha. We'll have to see if he can repeat it at Ducati. This glass-fronted, wooden-framed commemorative photo set will be limited to just 460 pieces worldwide.
