McLaren-Mercedes has been swift to dismiss the recent speculation that it could be set for a new livery in F1 2011 - insisting that there will be no change in the colour scheme this year.

It was rumoured earlier this week that the Woking-based outfit was preparing to abandon the livery it has run since 1997 due to it being too similar to the new look of rival Mercedes Grand Prix, who went silver last year in deference to the Stuttgart manufacturer's motorsport heritage and the iconic 'Silver Arrows' of half a century ago.

The suggestion was that with the unique nature of its livery having now been lost, McLaren might entertain a new colour scheme in 2011, with black the hotly-tipped favourite [see separate story - click here] - but speaking through its 'TheFifthDriver' Twitter account, the multiple world championship-winning operation has rapidly sought to quash all such talk.

'Black livery? Er, no,' the team assured. 'The same Rocket Red & chrome finish that you've grown to love since Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was born in 2007. That's official, by the way!'
