Massa hopeful of strong Pirelli show

Felipe Massa hopes that a switch to Pirelli tyres will aid him for the 2011 F1 season
Felipe Massa says he is confident that the new Pirelli tyres will be better suited to his driving style as he looks to bounce back from a tough 2010 F1 season.

On his return to the sport after injury ruled him out of a large part of 2009, the Brazilian failed to win a race and managed just five podium finishes en-route to sixth in the championship standings.

Admitting that he wasn't helped by the fact that he couldn't get on with the 2010 Bridgestone tyres, the Ferrari ace said he was hopeful that the new Pirelli rubber to be used this year would be better suited to his driving style.

“[2010] was a bad year for me and I didn't have the car I wanted to have to drive, especially because of the tyres,” he said. “For my driving style, it was very difficult. I'm looking forward to a nice year in 2011 when I can drive the car I wanted to drive.

“The first run with the Pirelli tyres was positive and the grip of the front tyres was good. It was positive to my driving style although we drove in a car that will be different as it was the 2010 car and not the one I will drive this year. That will be different because of KERS and the new rear wing, which I hope will work. We don't have the famous diffuser anymore but I hope we are on target with the car.”

With the balance of the car nearly set in stone why do some(FM,MS) think that a new tire will help them? And Massa's only chance to gain team support is to come out of the box quickly. Very quickly.
