F1's global television audience increased during the F1 2010 season, it has been announced.

According to Formula One Management (FOM) the total number of individuals rose to 527 million, up from 520 million in 2009.

The number of hours of coverage also increased, to 16,000 hours, with 187 countries receiving the feed.

This year F1 will be broadcast in HD (high definition) for the first time, with the feed available to all of the sport's host television broadcasters, including the BBC [see separate story - click here].

F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone is confident the upward trend will continue: "Whilst 2010 has delivered some great things, 2011 promises even more as F1 seeks to build upon the foundations laid in our emerging markets and enthral our audiences across the world."
