Audi motorsport boss Wolfgang Ullrich has refused to rule out the possibility of the brand entering F1 in future despite its success in other formulae.

The Volkswagen Audi Group has long been linked to a move into the sport, although Porsche has been the name most mooted as a possible option.

Porsche has already moved to distance itself from the sport [See separate story HERE], which would leave Audi as the most realistic option if VAG were to enter F1 in any capacity.

While he admits that Audi's focus at the moment is on the DTM and sportscar racing, Ullrich said that Audi does keep an eye on F1 even if its famous slogan of 'Vorsprung durch Technik' hasn't 'been compatible with F1 for the past 15 years'.

"Nevertheless, Audi regularly assesses the situation in Formula One," he told the Donau Kurier newspaper. "[However] from an image point of view, Audi already comes out high in the consideration of 'sportiness' and sporting success' [without F1]."
