Force India completed a solid opening test of the 2011 F1 season after Adrian Sutil posted the second quickest time on the final day of running in Spain.
The German, on track for the first time this season, was just beaten to top spot by the Renault of Robert Kubica as Force India concluded running with its 2010 VJM03.
After two days of tyre testing with Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta, the team again focused on the new Pirelli rubber with Sutil running on track with a variety of set-ups and fuel loads.
With a better understanding of the performance of the Pirelli tyres, the team will now focus fully on the debut of the VJM04 next week at Jerez.
“During the final day's testing in Valencia Adrian got a chance to compare the different tyres, but also looked at some set-up alternatives, brake material and the range of weight distribution available to us,” chief engineering director Dominic Harlow said. “It was another productive day, and now we shift our focus to the VJM04 for the roll out next week, which everyone in the team is tremendously looking forward to.
“The lap times today are interesting when you consider the technical differences between 2011 and 2010 cars like the VJM03, and relative levels of downforce, but of course we must be careful not to read too much into them.”
