HRT reveals images of F111

Hispania Racing may only have one driver signed up for 2011, but has released an image of its new car several weeks ahead of its scheduled debut in the Bahrain test.
Although the car is not officially scheduled to hit the track until the final pre-season test in Bahrain next month, Hispania Racing has made sure that it is not the last F1 outfit to reveal the shape of things to come by releasing images of the F111.

In doing so, the Spanish operation edges Force India, which is due to unveil the VJM04 online this afternoon [Tuesday], into the launch season backmarker slot, as pictures of the first car from the team of engineers and designers under the technical leadership of Geoff Willis and chief designer Paul White also reveals a fresh livery from the pen of Daniel Simon.

“We feel really proud of the car our drivers will run this forthcoming season," team president Jose Ramon Carabante claimed, "Despite a challenging first year, we managed to finish on the eleventh position in the constructors' championship and, now, we are very pleased to introduce the first spec of the F111, which means a huge design effort from our side. This is only a first step as we are planning several updates during the season."

With several technological advances being permitted on F1 cars this season, team principal Colin Kolles confirmed that the F111 would feature the adjustable rear wing, if not necessarily KERS, which returns after a year of voluntary suspension by the teams.

“The F111 represents a significant step forward for Hispania Racing," Kolles noted, no doubt recalling the tempestuous relationship the team endured with Italian constructor Dallara in its first season, "We have made a big improvement for starting our second season in F1 and what you see in our new car confirms Hispania Racing´s commitment to F1.”

Kolles was also delighted with Simon's first attempt at an F1 livery, the American artist having been drafted in to provide the team with a fresh visual approach for its second campaign. The first HRT car, which was only revealed on the eve of the opening round in Bahrain last March, and did not turn a wheel until official practice began at BIC, was clothed in carbon-fibre black with just few flashes of colour to represent its Spanish base.

“Daniel has created a wonderfully confident look for our new car, which really captures the effort the whole team has put into developing the F111," Kolles explained, "The car design and the graphic design perfectly complement one another and mark the real beginnings of our ambitions.”

Although Simon and Cosmic Motor label live mostly in the future, the designer also has a strong passion for motorsport's bold iconic liveries of the past, and has drawn inspiration from them in creating Hispania Racing´s new colour scheme in 'bringing together racing spirit and commercial reality'.

“I miss fearless visual statements and large beautiful numbers on today´s racing cars,” he reasoned, “Playing with the restrictions of what you can do to a complex F1 body is fun. There are many don'ts, but I found a way to lay courageous racing essence on the car.”
