Heikki Kovalainen insists he is feeling more positive with the new Team Lotus T128 despite encountering a number of minor mechanical issues on the second day of running at Catalunya.
The Finn lost track time during the morning with both a water leak and a fuel pressure issue but was able to wrack up another 58 laps as he posted the tenth fastest time of the 14 drivers in action.
Referring to the problems faced as nothing more than 'teething problems' Kovalainen said he was happy with his latest outing in the car and said the team was well placed to deal with any problems faced.
“I think the positive feeling with this car is growing even though we have had a couple more reliability issues today,” he said. “They're all teething problems and we are patient while we fix them one by one. We'll get through this and put the reliability issues behind us as we have experienced people in the right positions who know how to deal with them. We still managed to complete a lot of work today and I can't wait to get back in the car."
With Ricardo Teixeria also turning laps in the Lotus car, the team managed to complete more than 80 laps in total and technical director Mike Gascoyne said he was pleased with the progress made.
"That was a much more encouraging day today with 84 laps in total on the car,” he said. “We did have a couple of minor issues with the fuel pressure and a water leak but overall it was a better day for reliability.
“With Heikki we wanted to do a race distance which was slightly hindered by the water leak but overall we definitely made progress today."
