Hispania Racing team boss Colin Kolles said he was pleased with the performance of Vitantonio Liuzzi after the Italian completed his day of testing with the team on Saturday.
The former Force India man had his first taste of Hispania's 2010 car during the second day of running at Catalunya as he works towards trying to secure a place on the grid after losing his drive for the current season.
In total, Liuzzi managed 70 laps despite a gearbox issue and was twelfth quickest of the 14 drivers in action.
“Today was a positive day,” he said. “We made a lot of changes on the car, focusing particularly on the set-up and the tyres. It was a chance for me to get to know the new tyres and the team as it was my first day with Hispania Racing.
“We couldn't do a lot of laps since we had a problem with the gearbox in the afternoon, but we were able to clock a good time given the circumstances. We did long runs and short runs to test the performance of the car. Overall, I believe we've taken a step forwards with the balance of the car.”
Kolles meanwhile was impressed with the way Liuzzi had worked during the day.
“It was nice to see Tonio driving for us today, our aim was none other than to have him get used to the car,” he said. “We tested different settings on the car balance during both sessions and, looking at the times, we clearly improved as the day went on. We are very happy with Tonio's work today.”
Hispania is giving Giorgio Mondini time on track today.
