Lewis Hamilton insisted it was a 'big positive' for McLaren to complete more than 90 laps on the third day of F1 testing in Barcelona.
Hamilton took over from team-mate Jenson Button for the third day of the test at Catalunya and enjoyed a more trouble-free day than team-mate Jenson Button had done on the opening two days.
Although time was lost with a minor mechanical issue, the Briton was able to try Pirelli's intermediate and wet tyres for the first time during the morning before carrying out more tyre evaluation during the afternoon.
Hamilton ended the day third quickest behind Nico Rosberg and Vitaly Petrov, with the 2008 title winner now hoping for more trouble-free running on Monday as McLaren looks to make up for a lack of mileage compared to its rivals.
“This was a positive day: we've been focusing on our programme, trying to complete as many laps as possible, improve reliability and understand the Pirelli tyres,” he said. “We're learning more and more about them every day.
“We've had a few technical issues with this car, but the guys have been working incredibly to rectify them. To get more than 90 laps under my belt today was a big positive, and I'm looking forward to a trouble-free day tomorrow.”
