Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug is hopeful the Brackley-based outfit has made a step forward.
Haug recently admitted that Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg would struggle to get in the top-ten at the moment with the MGP W02 [see separate story – click here
], but following the conclusion of the four-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya this week he was a lot more positive.
“The times we did at Barcelona look better than what we have seen in the previous tests [at Valencia and Jerez],” Haug told Germany's Auto und Motor Sport
“Because we were able to drive more laps, we now understand the car and the tyres a lot better and that brings about better lap times.
“With our laps [at the Circuit de Catalunya], we went with very different settings than before. If everything goes in the right direction, the Silver Arrow may just surprise you.”
Mercedes concluded testing at Barcelona with the second best time - a 1m 23.168s, set by Rosberg.
