Toro Rosso: Re-scheduling Bahrain GP would be complex

Gianfranco Fantuzzi: Putting the [Bahrain] race back on the calendar later in the year would be very difficult. Replacing it with another event in Europe, to restore the calendar to 20 grand's prix, would be more straightforward.

Scuderia Toro Rosso team manager Gianfranco Fantuzzi has said it will be 'difficult' to re-schedule the cancelled Bahrain Grand Prix this year.

The decision to shelve the event was confirmed on Monday as a result of the political unrest in the Gulf state [see separate story – click here]. While there has since been talk it might now be shifted to the end of the season to form part of a Middle East double-header with Abu Dhabi, Fantuzzi is not convinced that is a realistic proposition.

“That would be very complex,” he explained to itv-f1.com. “The sea freight schedule is very tight, with the equipment moving from one race to another and then another, with very little flexibility in this area.

“So putting the race back on the calendar later in the year would be very difficult.

"Replacing it with another event in Europe, to restore the calendar to 20 grand's prix, would be more straightforward,” he added.

Bahrain's cancellation means the F1 2011 season will now start in Australia on March 27.
