Date revealed for Senna movie release in UK

The date for the UK release of the new documentary movie Senna has been officially confirmed - but for details of a special pre-screening, read on...
The eagerly-awaited new movie about the life and career of F1 legend Ayrton Senna will be officially released in the UK on 3 June, with a special prior screening a month earlier.

Having already been released to great acclaim in Japan, Brazil, the USA and Italy, the award-winning documentary film will be shown at the Curzon Mayfair in London for a special JA on F1 screening in conjunction with TAG Heuer at 6pm on 3 May. Tickets will be available shortly, with all proceeds going to the Grand Prix Mechanics Trust.

The viewing is expected to reunite some of the late Brazilian hero's mechanics, engineers and closest friends from the F1 paddock, and comes precisely a month before the general release in Britain. Senna will be released in Germany on 12 May, in Spain on 20 May and in France on 25 May.

Covering the three-time world champion's entire grand prix career from his debut with Toleman in 1984 to his tragic and untimely death at Imola a decade later, the movie draws upon documentary footage and audio, and its director Asif Kapadia and writer Manish Pandey will be present at the JA on F1 screening and will participate in a Q&A with host James Allen.

“I've been acutely aware of British fans having to wait so long to see our film,” acknowledged Pandey, “but I am so proud that the film is finally coming home. Neither the Senna family nor Bernie Ecclestone have ever sanctioned such a project for the cinema before, and we have made the film with unprecedented access to FOM and the family archive.”
