Schumacher misses on Melbourne pole duel

Michael Schumacher was the biggest casualty in second qualifying for the Australian GP, although Rubens Barrichello ran him close.
Michael Schumacher revisited some of the lower points of his 2010 F1 comeback by missing out on a spot in the top ten qualifying shoot-out for the Australian Grand Prix.

Bumped out of the leading group by Renault's Vitaly Petrov, the German had several attempts at regaining his place, but came up short on each occasion, even though his split times suggested he had the pace to make it. The Mercedes driver will start from the inside of row six, where he will line up alongside Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari.

While the Spaniard's team-mate survived due to Schumacher's inability to make the cut, veteran Rubens Barrichello squandered a possible top ten spot by spinning on his out-lap after putting a wheel on the grass. The Brazilian will start 17th, behind rookies Sergio Perez, Paul di Resta, Pastor Maldonado and Force India's Adrian Sutil, who suffered a massive spin entering the pit straight after being caught out as his adjustable rear wing deployed.

At the front of the field, Sebastian Vettel again set the pace, clocking a 1min 24-090secs best to head Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. Kamui Kobayashi, Petrov, an improved Felipe Massa and Nico Rosberg were the other qualifiers for the shoot-out.

he is doing amazingly well for a 42 year old, but all those delusional fans who keep thinking he is going to turn it all around and suddenly start beating (the second rate) Rosberg are just in major denial.
