Michael Schumacher again failed to make it through to the shoot-out for pole in qualifying for the Malaysian GP.

Schumacher was bumped out late on by his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, who finished the session sixth in the sister Mercedes GP W02 and more than six tenths of a second quicker. Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari also went out in Q2 and will start 12th and 13th, just behind Schumacher. Paul di Resta again beat his Force India team-mate, Adrian Sutil and will start 14th. Indeed Sutil was the slowest of the runners in Q2 and finished up down in 17th behind Rubens Barrichello and Sergio Perez.

McLaren's duo Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton meanwhile set the pace in Q2, the former fastest on a 1m 35.569s. Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber came in third and fourth with Fernando Alonso fifth. Rosberg, Felipe Massa, Vitaly Petrov, Kamui Kobayashi and Nick Heidfeld rounded out the top ten in positions 6 through to 10.
