Sebastian Vettel snatches pole for the Malaysian GP and edges out Lewis Hamilton by a tenth right at the end.

Sebastian Vettel claimed pole position for the F1 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix this afternoon at Sepang.

After Lewis Hamilton set the early benchmark, Vettel produced a lap of 1 minute 34.870 seconds to edge out the McLaren right at the end by one tenth of a second. Mark Webber had to settle for third in the other RB7, with Jenson Button completing the second row in fourth.

Fernando Alonso meanwhile was 'best of the rest' and fifth for Ferrari, albeit more than half a second off P4 and almost a second off the pole time. Nick Heidfeld put in a good lap and took sixth for Lotus Renault GP ahead Felipe Massa's Ferrari and the other Renault of Vitaly Petrov. Nico Rosberg and Kamui Kobayashi will line up ninth and tenth for Mercedes and Sauber respectively.
