Williams 'not satisfied' with lack of points

Sam Michael says Williams can't be happy with a failure to score in Shanghai
Technical director Sam Michael insists that there was nothing satisfying for Williams in failing to score any points in the Chinese Grand Prix, despite the fact that it marked the first time this season that it has secured a race finish.

After double DNFs in both Australia and Malaysia, the team had both cars running at the finish in Shanghai, although Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado could only manage 13th and 18th on the grid.

While there was the positive of at least seeing the chequered flag, Michael insists there is plenty of work to be done before the Turkish Grand Prix next month as the team seeks to break into the top ten for the first time this year.

“There is nothing satisfying about finishing out of the points,” he said. “Reliability-wise, however, it was positive to get both cars to the finish. There were stages during the race when our performance was respectable so we need to focus on those areas and improve our qualifying pace. We have some sound upgrades planned for Istanbul and we will be concentrating our efforts on those.”

Barrichello agreed that Williams needs to improve the FW33 before the European leg of the season starts in Istanbul and insisted he will work hard with the team to make improvements happen.

“We opted for a two-stop strategy today, others did three, but I don't think that made a difference,” he said. “The car isn't performing as well as it should. I am going to work hard to help the team improve it. I need this car to be performing better and I know we can make it happen.”
