Sauber, Hispania support natural disaster victims

Inspired by Kamui Kobayashi, Sauber has launched an innovative e-book to support victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami - as HRT sends its condolences to those who have suffered in Murcia
Sauber and Hispania Racing (HRT) have separately shown their support for victims of two of the world's most recent natural disasters.

Inspired and funded by its driver Kamui Kobayashi, the Swiss outfit has produced an electronic F1 book – entitled 'You are connected' – featuring contributions from each of the sport's key players. With the app able to be purchased via iTunes for just €0.79 – and all proceeds going to the Red Cross in Japan – fans have the possibility to aid the reconstruction process in a very unique way.

The e-book – designed to allow constant expansion with updated versions – features photos of all the drivers and team principals accompanied by handwritten and occasionally very personal messages for those affected by the tragedy. There is also a selection of shots of each of the F1 2011 cars in action.

“Although the disaster attracted huge international attention in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, other news has dominated the headlines since then,” opined Kobayashi. “However, the destruction in the country is so serious that it will take many years to recover from the losses and damage. The people in Japan need long-term support, and I'd like to thank all my colleagues in F1 for their contributions and hope that our e-book sells as well as possible.”

Hispania, for its part, has expressed its sympathies and condolences for the citizens of its hometown of Murcia after the earthquake that hit the region yesterday (Wednesday).

“I wish to send all my support to the citizens of Murcia and send my condolences to the families who have been victims of the earthquake that struck Lorca yesterday,” underlined HRT team president José Ramón Carabante. “I have special feelings towards the region of Murcia, since my family lives there. Unfortunately, we hear this sort of bad news on a far too regular basis. On behalf of myself and the whole Hispania Racing team, we send all our love to Lorca.”

Nice idea but according to the story it already does not look like it will be well implemented. "Available on iTunes"- so it is tied to just one platform and not available for the majority of e-readers or cell phones that have e-reader capability. Too bad.

why no mention of the red bull/webber contribution? redbull gave webber a wishbone, and he had it signed by all the current drivers. it is up for auction on a worldwide auction site, with all proceeds going to japan. and i am sure that many others are also doing their bit. but as with japan, deepest sympathies to those who lost families in the latest quake.
