Renault: Kubica unlikely to race in 2011

Renault team owner Gerard Lopez says a return to racing for Robert Kubica is unlikely in 2011
Renault team owner Gerard Lopez has admitted that it is 'almost certain' that Robert Kubica won't return to an F1 race seat this season, although the Pole could yet make an appearance in Friday practice.

Kubica is continuing his recovery at home from the injuries he sustained in an accident while taking part in the Ronde di Andora rally back in February.

The 26-year-old has made no secret of his desire to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible but Lopez admits that – although a Friday outing could be possible - he doesn't expect to see Kubica race in 2011.

“We can probably get Robert to test on Friday at some point before the end of the year,” Lopez was quoted as telling the Spanish radio station Onda Cero, “but it's almost certainly not going to be possible for him to return to racing this season.

“Robert has survived an unbelievable accident and now just recovering from it will be very hard. Nobody yet knows just how well he will recuperate - neither us nor the doctors can predict that at the moment.”

Kubica's replacement Nick Heidfeld currently sits seventh in the championship standings having secured his third points finish of the season in Spain.
