Monaco Q2 claims both Lotus Renaults

Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld head list of casualties after second phase of qualifying in Monaco.

The Lotus Renault team may have claimed to have won in the courtroom on Friday, but was unable to prevent its worst qualifying performance of the season as neither Vitaly Petrov or Nick Heidfeld made the pole position shoot-out in Monaco.

The Enstone team has had a representative in the final phase of qualifying at each of the five rounds so far, but Petrov and Heidfeld proved unable to find the final few tenths that would have elevated them into the top ten. Petrov briefly flirted with tenth position, but was quickly deposed by Sauber's Sergio Perez and was thereafter unable to recover. The Russian will start eleventh, while Heidfeld's final flying lap proved good enough only for 16th, ahead only of Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi.

The Swiss driver will thus start just ahead of STR team-mate Jaime Alguersuari, who was also summoned by the stewards for his part in the collision with Kamui Kobayashi that damaged the STR6's front wing. It remains to be seen whether Kobayashi will also be talked to, as he appeared to block the Spaniard, but he remained on track in Q2. It proved to be a fruitless effort for the Sauber driver, as he managed just 13th spot, ahead of the two Force Indias of Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil.

Rubens Barrichello was the other driver not to make the cut, having been bumped late on by Williams team-mate Pastor Maldonado, who makes the pole shoot-out for the second race in a row. The Venezuelan joins former GP2 sparring partner Perez in the top ten, the pair now having to face down the sport's big guns.

Lewis Hamilton again claimed fastest time in the 15-minute session, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher.
