Jaime Alguersuari was the big name that failed to make it through the opening phase of qualifying for this Sunday's F1 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.
Alguersuari looked like he might have done just enough to squeeze through, but the under pressure Torro Rosso man was bumped down near the end by Kamui Kobayashi. Alguersuari will now line-up in 18th.
Jarno Trulli meanwhile beat his Team Lotus team-mate, Heikki Kovalainen for the first time this year and will start 19th, a few hundredths quicker.
Vitantonio Liuzzi shone for Hispania and beat the Virgin of Timo Glock to 21st, while Narain Karthikeyan did enough to make the cut in the other HRT. Jerome d'Ambrosio failed to set a time within the 107 per cent and may now be forced to miss the race.
At the top of the times, Fernando Alonso led the way for Ferrari on a 1 minute 13.822 seconds, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Mark Webber, Vitaly Petrov, Paul di Resta, Nico Rosberg and Adrian Sutil rounded out the top ten.
Pedro de la Rosa incidentally made it through in 17th, 0.065 seconds up on Alguersuari, despite hitting the wall twice.
