Villa downplays Hispania reports

Javier Villa downplays Spanish press reports linking him with Hispania Racing
Javier Villa has downplayed reports in the Spanish media suggesting he could be in line for a possible drive with the Hispania Racing team in F1.

Following the announcement that the Thesan Capital group has taken a majority stake in the team, a report in the Spanish newspaper AS suggested that Villa could be one option to drive for the team next season as it attempts to make the team 'more Spanish', with suggestions that the team could also seek to enter into a tie-up with the Epsilon Euskadi outfit to make use of its state-of-the-art facilities.

At the moment, the team is run out of Colin Kolles' premises in Germany and has yet to employ a Spanish driver.

Villa, a three-time winner in GP2, had been linked to Hispania in the past when it was still know as Campos Meta 1 is currently competing in the World Touring Car Championship in a Proteam Motorsport-run BMW and he was quick to downplay the speculation suggesting he was being lined up for an F1 switch.

“In reference to all the news that appeared today, I should I say that we are very happy with our current program in the WTCC with BMW,” he wrote on his Twitter account. “Obviously I would love to be the first Spanish driver with the Hispania team in Formula One but it's all very new and too soon to say if anything could happen.”

Carlos Sainz Jr, the son of the former WRC title-winner, has also been mentioned as possible Hispania driver of the future.
