Vettel: We have to refocus

Sebastian Vettel tells Red Bull to respond to Fernando Alonso's British Grand Prix win for Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel has warned Red Bull it must refocus and fight back after Fernando Alonso gave Ferrari its first win of the 2011 F1 season at Silverstone.

Alonso made the most of updates to the Ferrari car and a crucial mistake from Red Bull in the pits to get ahead of Vettel into the lead of the British Grand Prix, and was then able to take a victory that allowed him to return to the top step of the podium for the first time since the inaugural Korean GP in October last year.

Despite his victory, Alonso remains a whopping 92 points behind Vettel in the championship standings while Ferrari has scored only half the points of Red Bull in the constructors' championship, with McLaren splitting the two teams in the standings.

However, in a video interview on the Red Bull Racing website, Vettel said it was important to take notice of Alonso's Silverstone success and react to the improved pace shown by Ferrari over the course of the weekend.

"It was a tough race and Ferrari were very quick, Fernando in particular,” he said. “They beat us and we need to accept it.

“It was a lesson to learn and it is now up to us to refocus and make sure that we come back with a stronger performance in the next couple of races as it is an important time for the championship. We are in a good position but we have to keep working on ourselves because otherwise, the others could come too close for out liking.”

You make some good points Dave, but I don't agree with your conclusions. Alonso DID drive pretty well just to be within range and able to capitalize on the pit problems. And while Hamilton's pass was a good one, the two of them are both amongst the best on the grid this year. Your point on the hard tires is a question that is still very much in doubt- so far the Ferraris just have not done well on them but we don't know if that will still be the case or not. Hamilton IS one of the few likely to be able to challenge, but Alonso, Webber and Button all clearly have a shot too. Chances are that all any of them will do is take points away from RBR, but based one the season so far saying that Hamilton is the only with with a chance makes little sense to me.

@Drymaster. How are you qualified to judge that Vettel is currently the best driver in F1 and on what basis is he better than anyone else? You state that 80% of comments are not made by F1 fans and I believe you are one of these since you are clearly just a fan of Vettel....
