Bruno happy that Senna movie reveals Ayrton's 'human side'
Bruno Senna has spoken to Crash.net about how he is missing life on the grand prix grid, his chances of returning next year - and the movie about his uncle, arguably the greatest F1 driver ever seen...
Bruno Senna has described the movie about his late uncle Ayrton – in the eyes of many, the greatest driver ever to have graced the F1 grid – as an 'awesome' tribute, expressing his delight that it successfully portrays the three-time world champion's 'human side' as well as his extraordinary on-track exploits.
Docu-film Senna was released in the UK last month to popular acclaim, and the subject's nephew Bruno has confessed that watching it not only brought back some fond recollections, but also enlightened him.
“I think it's a great tribute to Ayrton,” the Brazilian told Crash.net. “They managed to show his human side as well as Ayrton the racer, which has not been done before. The result is awesome, really cool. It definitely showed some good memories, and also some new things I didn't know about when I was younger.”
Senna was speaking at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed, to which he has been a regular visitor in recent years. On this occasion, the 27-year-old got behind the wheel of the 2009 Renault F1 R29, the road-going Lotus Evora S and the new Lotus T125.
“It's always enjoyable to be here, seeing the old cars and driving some of these amazing machines up the hill,” he enthused, frequently pausing to speak to fans, sign autographs and pose for photos. “It would only be nicer if it was a proper circuit and proper competition, but it's very cool and we get a lot of contact with the fans as well, so it's good – a different scene for everybody.”
The taste of high-octane action at Goodwood also reminded Senna of just what he is missing out on at present. Having participated in his maiden campaign of top flight competition last year with backmarker Hispania Racing (HRT), the former GP2 Series runner-up is on the sidelines in F1 2011, albeit enhancing his future employment prospects with a stint as test and reserve driver for Lotus Renault GP.
“I'm really missing it,” he confessed. “I could never have imagined how much I would miss racing, but by not doing it, you realise exactly how much you miss it. This is the first time that I'm in a big F1 team with a good infrastructure, though, so I'm getting to learn a lot. I'm working as hard as I can with them, and hopefully I'll be on the grid next year in a good car – that's the plan.”
