Di Resta frustrated by opening lap clash

Paul di Resta misses out on possible points in Germany after opening lap clash
Paul di Resta said he was frustrated at missing out on a possible points finish in the German Grand Prix after a clash on the opening lap at the Nurburgring saw his hopes of a strong finish come to an end.

The Scot just missed out on making it through to the final stage of qualifying for the second successive race after posting the twelfth fastest time and held his place through the opening corner as the field diced for position.

However, contact from the Renault of Nick Heidfeld then tipped di Resta into a spin and dropped him to the rear of the field – compromising the remainder of his race and leaving the former DTM racer to settle for 13th at the finish.

“Once again it's a frustrating end to my weekend because I had a great chance to score some points today,” the Force India man said. “I made a reasonable start, maintained my position and I was racing with Michael [Schumacher] into the first corner. Then I got hit from behind, which must have been Nick, and that spun me around and compromised my race.

“It's a shame because we came here with a great package and we had a good strategy for the race. I pushed hard to recover, but points were just out of reach today. The good news is that Adrian has brought in a lot of points and shown just how competitive the car is.”
