Is this the best thing in F1 right now?

We must admit, this has come a week too soon, as those pesky gaming gurus over at Red Bull have scuppered our efforts to get any work done at all in the build-up to F1's summer break. Here's why...
The F1 2011 World Championship campaign is turning out to be a thriller with rarely a dull grand prix in sight, but ever one to raise the bar that notch higher still, our friends at Red Bull have produced a rip-roaring, action-packed new racing game that harkens back to golden oldie Micro Machines.

In Red Bull Kart Fighter, you can race your kart around some of the world's greatest landmarks, driving past palaces, speeding through senates and power-sliding in parliament as 'The Corridors of Power' echo to the sound of screaming engines. As you'll see, it's certainly quite addictive...

You can either challenge your friends to beat your best times, or take on the 'Career' mode featuring 15 tracks in five global locations, three kart leagues to unlock – each with their own performance and handling characteristics – and a garage to upgrade your machine into a monster!

Better yet, it's all free, and those gamers posting the quickest lap times can earn themselves tickets to the Red Bull Speed Jam event in Cardiff on 3 September via Red Bull's first on-pack promotion; entering a unique code found under the ring-pull of special cans unlocks the game's 'Race for Tickets' mode, a fastest lap challenge in which users must beat a target time in order to qualify for the ticket draw.

In Red Bull Speed Jam, motorsport giants will descend on the Welsh capital, led by defending double F1 World Champions Red Bull Racing, the amazing aerial acrobats of the Red Bull Matadors and a special motorbike display from world-renowned stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer and freestyle trials rider Julian Dupont. Red Bull Speed Jam will also play host to the semi-finals and final of Red Bull Kart Fight, a nationwide competition to find the UK's best amateur karter.

Red Bull Kart Fighter is available on both the web and the iPhone, with the 'Challenge' mode enabling a number of friends to take turns at the game on the same device – perfect for iPhone users down the pub! The web version also takes advantage of Facebook and Twitter to bring friends into the party and see who can set the fastest time.

Our best time on level one so far is a smidgen over 18 seconds. Can you beat it..?
