VW would consider F1 in future

VW's motorsport head suggests F1 could be an option from 2018
Volkswagen's head of motorsport has said that the company could consider a move into F1, but not until 2018 at the earliest.

The German marque has been at the centre of rumour and speculation for some time with links to Red Bull Racing having been played down on more than one occasion.

However, despite denials that a move into F1 was forthcoming when new engine regulations come into play in the coming seasons, Wolfgang Duerheimer has now admitted that F1 could be an option in the longer term.

"I could imagine involvement in Formula One in 2018, when the company is at the forefront of the industry," he told Auto Motor und Sport. "We have enough brands that could do that."

Audi, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat and Skoda are all part of the VW Audi Group.
