Alguersuari not thinking about future

Jaime Alguersuari says that good performances are the only way he can influence his F1 future.
Jaime Alguersuari insists that he is not letting speculation about next season's Scuderia Toro Rosso line-up affect his concentration, claiming that there is little that he can do about the situation.

A poor start to the 2011 F1 campaign had the young Spaniard marked down for a possible early exit, especially with Red Bull protégé Daniel Ricciardo waiting in the wings, and turning in impressive performances during Friday morning free practice. Just as it appeared that STR and Red Bull may be about to pull the trigger, however, Alguersuari's form took an upturn, with three successive points finishes prior to last weekend's German Grand Prix lifting him above team-mate Sebastien Buemi in the standings.

The run of success coincided with Ricciardo's secondment to HRT, which appears to have lifted the pressure on both Alguersuari and Buemi for the rest of the season, but the Spaniard insists that there is little he can do to affect the future except concentrate on turning in the best performances he can between now and Interlagos in November.

"[I'm not worried] at all," he told Spain's Diario Sport, "It's a situation that does not depend on me, [and] I don't waste time thinking about things that I can do nothing about. I can put my helmet on and do my best. I am serious and I want to progress, but I do not think about whether I will have a Red Bull or a Ferrari or a Toro Rosso or a HRT. I worry about making the most of what I have now."

Ricciardo has been linked to a possible jump straight to Red Bull Racing, but such a move depends on countryman Mark Webber deciding whether he wants to remain with the Milton Keynes squad for 2012. With the six-time GP winner thought likely to remain as team-mate to Sebastian Vettel for at least another season, Ricciardo's best chance of moving up the grid would appear to lie with Toro Rosso, adding extra spice to the battle between Alguersuari and Buemi over the remaining nine races of 2011.
