Massa rues lap eight off

Felipe Massa: It was a difficult race with the rain coming and going. My afternoon was ruined when I went off the track on lap 8. The back end of the car hit the barriers and I was scared the car might be too damaged to continue, but my engineer told me I could keep going.

Felipe Massa was 'annoyed' not to be able to fight for a podium finish in Hungary on Sunday.

The Brazilian, who eventually finished sixth in his Ferrari, was lucky to get to the end however, after he lost it in the damp conditions in the early stages and kissed the barriers at the exit of turn two.

That dropped him to ninth and while it did damage part of his rear wing, he was able to continue and eventually picked up eight points, finishing around 33 seconds off Mark Webber in P5 and setting the fastest lap in the process.

“It was a difficult race with the rain coming and going," Massa reflected after the eleventh round in the F1 2011 World Championship.

"My afternoon was ruined when I went off the track on lap 8. The back end of the car hit the barriers and I was scared the car might be too damaged to continue, but my engineer told me I could keep going.

“I lost so much time because of that and even if I made some nice passing moves and moved up the order, I am still annoyed at not having been able to fight for a podium finish as I probably could have done.

“When it began to rain after lap 40 – but also at the start – the conditions were very difficult: you had to absolutely avoid the white lines because they were extremely slippery and it was like driving on ice.”

Massa is now looking forward to some time out and he is hopeful the final eight races will be more positive for him and the Scuderia.

“Now we have a bit of a holiday: I will head back to Brazil to be with my family and I always enjoy spending time in my country. I am sure that when I come back to Europe, it will mark the start of a second part of the championship, a better one than the first,” he summed-up.

Massa goes from bad to worse, I really don't understand that they will want to renew for 2012. Is seen that is pilot will not improve soon, and Ferrari is a team too big! h ttp://www.youtube.com/formulasantander

Masa is good driver but his performance level is dropping this year. I do not think Ferrari will keep him even though the Ferrari said Masa will be in Ferrari next year. Ferrari want to win team championship so badly. If they have found someone to replace for Masa and then they will do it. I want to see Kamui Kabayashi in ferrari in 2012 but he was extended his contract with Sauber for until 2012 reason.
