John Watson says his former team McLaren have the 'perfect' driver pairing in British duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Button stormed to his second win of the season in a dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix at the weekend, just a week after Hamilton also picked up win number two of 2011 with a fine drive at the Nurburgring.

The pair now sit third and fifth in the championship going into the summer break, with just 13 points between them and both within striking distance of second placed Mark Webber.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Watson - who took four of his five F1 victories with the McLaren team - said he felt that the British duo were the ideal partnership for the Mercedes powered team, with Button's maturity working well alongside the aggression shown by Hamilton on track.

"I don't think they [McLaren] realised when they took Jenson on what a treasure they had," he said. "He's won four Grand Prix for the team over the two seasons but more importantly is the balance between the two drivers.

"Lewis is aggressive, what Jenson brings to the team is a maturity and a stability. There is a perfect balance between the two drivers, a hot rod in Lewis and a more understanding Jenson. Together it makes a great team."

Sebastian Vettel is the only other driver aside from the McLaren pair to have won more than once this season.
