Nico Rosberg has admitted that he has no option but to wait for the moment he becomes a race winner in F1.

The German celebrated his 100th race in Hungary but had to settle for ninth place on what was another tough weekend for the Mercedes team.

Despite high hopes before the season started, Mercedes has yet to break onto the podium this season while Rosberg himself hasn't managed to finish higher than fifth in any of the races run so far.

With focus set to turn shortly towards 2012, Rosberg admits that his chances of success are going to have to wait, insisting that it would be hard for anyone to win at the wheel of the W02.

"No one could win with my car," he told the Spanish newspaper El Pais. "There are three teams - Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren - who are ahead of the others. I need to wait to get a better car.

"Later this year or early next year I will start to think about winning. With this car, to me seventh place is like winning."

Rosberg added that the team was aware of the weaknesses on the car that needed to be worked on.

"In general it's the aerodynamics, mechanically in terms of reducing weight," he said. "The engine is fine, but the blown exhaust system, which is a very important part of the aerodynamics now, can be improved a lot. We're working on it."
