Jenson Button had a 'lot of fun' driving his McLaren F1 car through the streets of Manchester yesterday.
Button, who came back to the UK straight from taking a podium finish at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium the day before, demoed the car right in the heart of Manchester city centre, driving down Deansgate, before turning down John Dalton Street and into Albert Square.
The event was organised by Vodafone, McLaren's title sponsor, and also saw the F1 2009 World Champion treat two lucky Vodafone customers to a thrilling drive in a McLaren MP4-12C sports car, before ending the day with an on-stage, public Q&A appearance.
“I think Vodafone VIP has done a brilliant job to make this happen – it can't have been easy – but to see the looks on people's faces when I opened up the throttle, was a fantastic moment,” Button said.
“It is all about giving something back to the fans and just unleashing the awesome power of a F1 car. It was a lot of fun.”
Button's run marked the third and final day of the Vodafone VIP Live event in Manchester, which also incorporated a Fanzone containing a bespoke Go Kart Track, and a number of interactive F1 experiences, such as a pit stop challenge and an F1 simulator.
