POLL: Who will emerge top in Hamilton/Button duel?

Vote in our latest F1 poll and have your say now on who will win the Lewis Hamilton/Jenson Button inter-team battle...
Following his fantastic podium finish in Belgium last weekend, Jenson Button moved ahead of his McLaren team-mate, Lewis Hamilton in the F1 2011 drivers' championship.

Heading into the final seven races, just three points split the two, and at the moment the momentum is definitely with Button in the inter-team squabble.

Indeed JB has ascended the podium three times in the last six races – twice mounting the top step, in Canada and Hungary – whilst Hamilton has done so just once, when he triumphed in Germany. Furthermore Button has claimed six rostrum finishes from twelve starts this year; Hamilton, only four.

However the 2008 F1 World Champion is arguably the fastest driver in the field – and invariably faster than Button – but that speed continues to be spoiled by moments of impetuosity and ill-judgement. He could have won at both the Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps – but as it was, he came away with a solitary fourth place.

So, can he turn it around?

Looking back at their best starts and finishes in the remaining races over the years, it would seem so. Button hasn't ever been on pole at any of them and in Brazil, the season finale, he hasn't qualified in the top-ten since 2005. Hamilton, by contrast, has had three pole positions (in Italy, Singapore and Abu Dhabi) and has gone on to take five podiums, including a win in Singapore.

Stats never tell the whole story, however, and it is worth bearing in mind that more often than not Lewis has had a good car. The same cannot be said of JB, who incidentally has still taken four podiums (at Monza, Suzuka, Abu Dhabi and Interlagos).

So, who do you feel will be the top McLaren driver in 2011?

Button has been unlucky with his DNFs this year, with mechanical problems robbing him of podiums. Lu Lu's DNF have been through avoidable, stupid mistakes.
