Schumacher: We will continue to push hard

Michael Schumacher: We achieved a good team result in Spa last weekend, and I especially enjoyed the overtaking battles and the challenge of making up so many places during the race. This gives us a boost going into the final part of the season.

Michael Schumacher has vowed there will be no let up and that he will continue 'pushing hard' in the remaining races of the season in bid to get the 'best possible results'.

Schumacher shone in Belgium last weekend and put in a top performance on the 20th anniversary of his F1 debut at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, charging through the pack, having started last, to finish fifth.

It was easily one of his best performances of the year, along with Canada, and the 42-year-old has admitted it has given him and Mercedes a real boost for the last part of F1 2011.

“The final European race takes place at Monza, a truly historic F1 circuit, and one where I have always been so warmly welcomed and supported over the years,” Schumacher said prior to the 13th round.

“We achieved a good team result in Spa last weekend, and I especially enjoyed the overtaking battles and the challenge of making up so many places during the race. This gives us a boost going into the final part of the season, and we will continue pushing hard to get the best possible results.”

Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn meanwhile added that the squad wants to end the European season as positively as possible.

“Monza is always a fitting venue for the final European race, and spending a race weekend there is a special experience,” he continued. “The unique high-speed circuit is a classic racing venue, and one of the best places to watch F1 cars at their very top speeds.

“Coming off the back of our best result of the season in Spa, we are looking forward to the weekend and to finishing the European season on a high.

“With the emphasis jointly on engine power and aerodynamic efficiency, we have the benefit of our Mercedes-Benz engine and, as always for Monza, we will run a special low-downforce aerodynamic package to minimise drag on the long straights,” Brawn added.

Same story as Rossi in motogp. It isnt a case of needing the best package, just a competitive package. Its a long way to go before mercedes are up there with the big 3
