BMW refuse to comment on Heidfeld DTM talk

BMW is remaining tight-lipped regarding speculation placing Lotus Renault GP F1 refugee Nick Heidfeld in its new DTM operation from next year...
BMW has refused to shed any light upon speculation linking recent Lotus Renault GP evictee Nick Heidfeld with a spot in the manufacturer's new DTM squad next year.

Initially drafted in pre-season to replace the injured Robert Kubica, Heidfeld was dropped by Lotus Renault GP in favour of the Enstone-based outfit's reserve Bruno Senna on the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps just over a week ago.

After initially threatening legal action to reclaim a seat that he believed was contractually his, an out-of-court settlement has now been reached that has resulted in driver and team parting company – and the experienced German has since been linked with one of the four available BMW M3 DTM berths for 2012 alongside Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus, with claims that Heidfeld has already held discussions with his former employer. The Bavarian marque, however, is keeping tight-lipped on the matter.

“We have always said we would look first at the drivers from our own programme,” Jens Marquardt – who has replaced Dr. Mario Theissen as BMW motorsport director – told German news agency SID, stressing that 'we do not comment on rumours'.

When asked by sport1.de whether BMW is keen to take on a German driver for its return to the pan-European tin-top series, meanwhile, Marquardt conceded only: “I am confident that we will have a competitive driver line-up in 2012.”

So it makes 8-3 to Heidfeld, which is very impressive actually considering who has been his teammates.
