Ferrari: Domenicali safe in role

Luca di Montezemolo insists that Stefano Domenicali is safe as team principal
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo insists that Stefano Domenicali is safe in his job as team principal despite the team's failure to fight for the 2011 F1 title.

Fernando Alonso sits second in the championship standings but is now 112 points behind Sebastian Vettel, while Ferrari is a massive 197 points down on Red Bull on the constructors' championship following the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

The failure to challenge for honours comes in a season when Ferrari has taken just a single victory – in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone – but di Montezemolo insisted that Domenicali would once again be the man to lead the team into 2012 as it attempts to reclaim the championship titles.

“In one word, yes,” he told the BBC when asked if Domenicali would stay on. "Stefano has all my commitment. He has a big commitment to deliver and so he will be very busy.

"I'm very happy that my team management is so confident and I look forward that he will deliver. I am pleased to have what I think is the best driver in the world, that is Fernando and I'm pleased to see a good reaction from Felipe in the second half of the season.

"So for next year I hope to make a condition to win again the championship."

Di Montezemolo added that he believed Ferrari has a team capable of challenging for the title next season having ruled out another possible approach for Red Bull designer Adrian Newey – who had been approached last year about a switch to the Scuderia.

"I have a big opinion of Newey but I am pleased and happy with my technicians,” he said. "I am also absolutely confident that, with all respect to Newey, we can have a very competitive car new year because I know my people."

Is Whombat a family member of Luca di Montezemolo? This is the Alonso better then Schumi fool.. All that garbage is so one side and lacks vision. Ferrari were limited before Todt and Brawn - and I get the feeling they're there again... headed by this bafoon.
