Quaife-Hobbs joins Abu Dhabi test

Virgin to run Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in Abu Dhabi
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs is to make his debut in official F1 testing following the conclusion of the current season as a reward for his performance during the 2011 GP3 campaign.

Having been the top driver for the Marussia Manor team during the season, the 20-year-old will join Marussia Virgin Racing for the F1 rookie test in Abu Dhabi, where he will be at the wheel of the MVR-02 on the opening day of running.

Quaife-Hobbs has already taken part in two days of aero testing with the team, with the outing in Abu Dhabi being his first day of 'proper' F1 running.

“I'm very excited about the prospect of driving the MVR-02 again following my two aero tests and welcome the chance to drive around a proper circuit,” he said. “In Idiado and RAF Cottesmore, it was purely straight-line testing, which was a fantastic opportunity to be part of the team's ongoing development, but now it will be proper testing and I can't wait.

“I finished the season as top Manor GP3 driver and it's nice to have your results recognised in this way. Previously I was helping the team to carry out development work, but now it will be more about them testing me. However, after a successful performance in the last two tests, I feel confident that I can continue to improve as I get more used to the car, and hopefully produce some reasonable lap times.”
