Nico Rosberg could be on the verge of signing a new deal with Mercedes that will keep him with the team for at least four more years.

Rosberg's current contract expires at the end of 2012 and his form this season and in 2010 has impressed Mercedes: "Nico and Mercedes are interested in a very long-term cooperation," Mercedes boss Norbert Haug told speedtv.com.

Rosberg meanwhile also confirmed that talks are taking place: "We are currently discussing that," he added in an interview with Germany's FAZ newspaper when asked if a contract extension is on the cards.

Rosberg also went on to note that he is happy to be teamed with Michael Schumacher: "Both of us are on the same level. We often exchange information and we usually have the same ideas. That is helpful for the development," he continued.

"Even if I am faster, there is always a corner in which he is quicker or a set-up that he understands better. You can always learn something. I am very open, very interested - and try to pick up all the small pieces that you need. We both benefit from this.

"My goal though is to be the more successful driver in the team. This is the only way I can win races and become world champion. It is up to me to get into that position," he concluded.
