Domenicali: Vettel would be welcomed

Stefano Domenicali says Fernando Alonso would welcome the chance to partner Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari
Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali says he feels Fernando Alonso would be comfortable with Sebastian Vettel as a team-mate if the newly-crowned double champion was ever to move to the Scuderia.

Vettel, who wrapped up the 2011 title in Suzuka to take Alonso's record as the youngest double champion in F1 history, has been linked with Ferrari for some time having made no secret of his desire to drive for the team.

Speaking following the Japanese GP, Domenicali said he saw no reason why Alonso would have any issues with Vettel joining him in future – with Felipe Massa being out of contract at the end of next season.

“Would Alonso accept it?” he told Gazzetta dello Sport when asked if he could imaging Vettel and Alonso together. “I think so, I think it could work. Fernando's strength is that he is not afraid of anyone, a force that comes from his maturity.”

Massa could yet do enough to retain his drive if he can return to the kind of form that saw him almost take the title back in 2008, although Domenicali said there were plenty of people who would like to take his role – including one who the Brazilian has clashed with a number of times in recent races.

“He will do everything to prove what he has to Ferrari, and the other drivers with contracts expiring will want to prove that they are ready to come,” he said. “Among those, probably, is [Lewis] Hamilton.

“Felipe had a good weekend (at Suzuka), until the contact with Hamilton. It was a shame it happened in a very positive weekend for him.”

Don't think so, we all know Alonso likes to be number one which for him means to be supported at all times by his teammate. Vettel doesn't have or need this kind of crutch. Korean Press Conference Alonso,"I am extremely happy with any team-mate I have alongside me............. I have a long-term contract with Ferrari for the next five or six years so I don't know, if we can keep going with Felipe or if there will be a change in the future. If someone else is coming we will try to work as close as we work now as we do with him and try to help Ferrari in as many races as possible so it will be good." I have a dependable crutch in Felipe, I want the same from any driver during the term of my Ferrari contract.
