The reason for Lewis Hamilton's subdued demeanour during the recent Korean Grand Prix has become apparent after the McLaren driver confirmed a split with girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger.

Hamilton took pole position for the Korean race and then finished second behind championship Sebastian Vettel, but was noticeably downbeat despite his performance on track.

The Briton has now revealed that his relationship with Scherzinger has come to an end for a second time - the pair having reunited in March last year - but that the split had been amicable.

"We're friends and we can move forwards," he was quoted by Reuters. "It's never easy going through tough times. These times are sent to try you and it's about how you pull through them.

"I've my family who are helping, so I feel pretty good."

As well as the support of his family, Hamilton can also count on the backing of his management team, who will be present this weekend for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.
