Vettel wins Indian GP

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel dominates in India and leads from lights-to-flag to secure his eleventh win of the F1 2011 season.

Sebastian Vettel took a convincing victory at the all-new Buddh International Circuit today to become the very first winner of the Indian Grand Prix.

Vettel led from start-to-finish in his Red Bull RB7 and was never troubled en-route to his eleventh maximum haul of the F1 2011 season. It was the perfect weekend for the German, who did the triple by taking pole position, victory and the fastest lap. Vettel also broke another record, beating Nigel Mansell for the most laps led in a single season.

Jenson Button meanwhile took the runners-up spot for McLaren, passing Fernando Alonso at the start, when the Spaniard ran wide at Turn 1 and also getting by Mark Webber on the opening lap into Turn 4. Button was the only one anywhere near Vettel throughout the afternoon, but while he stayed up with the German, he was never really a threat.

Alonso completed the podium in his Ferrari, jumping Webber following the final stops, while Michael Schumacher also gained near the end and leapfrogged his Mercedes team-mate, Nico Rosberg.

Lewis Hamilton had to settle for seventh, losing time on lap 24 after clashing again with Felipe Massa. Massa was handed a drive-through penalty for the incident and the Brazilian later went out when he hit the kerbs and broke his front suspension, mirroring what happened on Saturday in Q3.

Further back Jaime Alguersuari finished strongly for Toro Rosso in eighth, ahead of Force India's Adrian Sutil and Sergio Perez's Sauber.
