Virgin chases name change

Marussia Virgin Racing eager for rebranding ahead of 2012 F1 season
The Virgin Racing team looks set to be renamed for the 2012 F1 season after lodging plans to switch its title to that of Russian car maker Marussia.

Marussia joined the Manor Motorsport-run team as a title sponsor earlier this season, although on the whole, the team has continued to be known simply as Virgin Racing as opposed to its full title of Marussia Virgin Racing.

However, according to The Times, plans are afoot to drop the Virgin element of the team name for next season, if the move can be agreed by rival teams during a meeting of the F1 commission.

Virgin are set to stay onboard as a partner, having backed the team since it joined the grid last season.

As well as Virgin, both Team Lotus and Renault are set to try and change their names for 2012, with Team Lotus aiming to become Caterham and Renault eager to become Lotus thanks to its tie-up with the carmaker.
