Work halted at Circuit of the Americas

Work halted in Austin over a contractual dispute
The United States Grand Prix at the new Circuit of the Americas venue has been plunged into doubt following the announcement that construction work at the circuit near Austin, Texas has stopped.

Circuit organisers responsible for building the new venue have elected to stop work following a disagreement with promoters Full Throttle Productions, who have the rights to run the F1 event slated to join the calendar next year.

In order for the race to go ahead, the deal to host the race needs to be passed over to the Circuit of the Americas but as yet, that hasn't happened.

As such, work has been halted until the contract is in place, with circuit bosses eager to find a resolution.

“We have spent tremendous resources preparing for the Formula One and MotoGP
Championship races, but the failure to deliver race contracts gives us great concern,” Bobby Epstein, founding partner of Circuit of The Americas, said. “We believe the United States is vital for the future of Formula One and its teams and sponsors. Given the purpose-built Tilke design, creating a unique fan experience and iconic challenge for drivers, we hope that Texas will not be left behind.

“Over 100,000 fans have expressed an interest in purchasing tickets for Formula One alone.”

Up until the decision to halt work, circuit bosses insisted that work had been progressing on schedule, with 300 construction workers ready to return to action once the F1 contract is in place.

Full Throttle Promotions insists it has 'done all it can' and that it is now the 'responsibility' of the Circuit of the Americas to ensure the race can take place.

A second F1 race on American soil in New Jersey was announced last month and is due to join the calendar in 2013.
