Vergne completes Abu Dhabi sweep

Jean-Eric Vergne completes a clean-sweep of fastest times on the final day in Abu Dhabi
Jean-Eric Vergne completed a clean-sweep of quickest times in F1's Young Driver Test after leading the way on the final day of running at Yas Marina.

The French driver posted the best time of the week on the final day with a lap of 1min 38.917secs, which was nearly two seconds quicker than Mercedes driver Sam Bird, who ended the final day second fastest.

Vergne completed the fewest number of laps on the final day amongst those drivers in action all day, with his best lap being just half a second slower than the time set by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in taking pole for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Bird's quickest lap, which came on a day when Mercedes trialled a 2012 exhaust, saw him knock Ferrari test driver Jules Bianchi back to third. Bianchi has looked like being second fastest for the third straight day before Bird's late lap left the Frenchman to settle for third – 2.4secs behind Vergne.

Oliver Turvey returned to action for McLaren and was fourth fastest, while another returnee – Max Chilton – slotted into fifth with one of his final laps of the day for Force India.

Sauber test driver Esteban Gutierrez was sixth quickest ahead of Mirko Bortolotti, who took over from Valtteri Bottas for Williams to sample F1 machinery as his reward for winning the 2011 F2 title.

Toro Rosso's Kevin Ceccon was eighth ahead of Team Lotus' Alexander Rossi and Jan Charouz – the Czech driver swapping the HRT he drove on Wednesday for Renault's R31.

Stefano Coletti was eleventh as he shared the Toro Rosso with Ceccon, while Nathanael Berthon was twelfth for HRT as he added to the limited laps completed on Wednesday afternoon with a full day of running.

Virgin duo Robert Wickens and Charles Pic rounded out the 14 drivers in action as the test drew to a close.

He may be running 2012 parts. He nearly matched Marks Q3 time and is only 4 tenths off Vettel. Give him a week with the car and he equals them both.
