Kubica to miss start of 2012 F1 season

Robert Kubica to miss the start of the 2012 F1 season after failing to regain fitness in time
Robert Kubica will miss the start of the 2012 F1 season after informing his Lotus Renault GP team that he needs more time to recover from the injuries sustained in his rally accident earlier this year.

The Pole was forced to sit out the entire 2011 campaign as a result of the incident back in February, which left him with multiple injuries after an armco barrier entered the cockpit of his Skoda Fabia following a collision.

Although he had hoped to be back in a car before the end of the current season, Kubica has now told the team he won't be in a position to race from the start of 2012 despite his ongoing recovery going well, with Renault now assessing its options for the season ahead.

Vitaly Petrov has a contract in place for 2012, while Bruno Senna and Romain Grosjean are both chasing the second seat.

“Even if I've been working very, very hard over the course of the last few weeks, I came to the conclusion that I am not yet certain to be ready for the 2012 season,” Kubica said. “I have called the team and I have informed them of the situation. This was a difficult decision to make, but it is the most reasonable one. I also know that LRGP need to prepare for next year, and further extending deadlines would not have been the right thing to do.

“On a personal level, my recovery is still very encouraging and my doctors keep being impressed. I just need more time, as I want to be 100 per cent ready before I commit to anything driving related. Finally, I regret not having been able to provide more news and not having appeared in the papers, and I thank my friends of the media for understanding that this has been the best way for me to cope with what has been the most difficult period of my life.”

I hope he will be back in the Renault next year. He reminds me of Mika Hakkinen. Blisteringly quick but that accident in 1995 at Adelaide could have spelt the end of his career. It didnt...he came back from deaths door and won a couple of championships... In a competetive car, Kubica would be a VERY strong force to be reckoned with.
