Renault committed to Kubica

Renault committed to Robert Kubica despite news he will miss the start of 2012
Renault team boss Eric Boullier insists that the Enstone-based squad remains 100 per cent behind Robert Kubica despite the Pole confirming to the team that he won't be in a position to return for the start of the 2012 season.

Kubica confirmed on Wednesday morning that, while his recovery is going well, he wasn't in a position to commit to the start of the new campaign, leaving Renault to look at the options available in regards to its driver line-up [See separate story HERE].

Although Kubica now faces longer on the sidelines as his recovery goes on, Renault has confirmed that a test car is waiting for the Pole and that a crew to run the car is 'on standby' when needed.

The team is also in discussions with Kubica's management team about extending his contract into the 2013 season.

“Everybody in the team is, of course, very disappointed today,” team boss Eric Boullier said. “Robert not driving in Australia at the start of next season is not what we were all hoping for. However, he has taken a very mature decision, acting in the best interests of Lotus Renault GP.

“As a team and as a family, we remain 100 per cent behind him and we'll help as much as we can. A programme composed of simulator testing, single-seater and F1 track time is awaiting him. In the meantime, we will start talking to a few drivers in order to finalise our line-up for next year as soon as possible. Robert will take it step by step and will jump back in his racing car when he feels it is the right moment to do so. On behalf of all 520 members of the team, I wish him a speedy recovery.”
