Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull Racing has made no bones in admitting his team 'cannot be everybody's darlings' due to their unprecedented domination in the last couple of seasons.
2010 and 2011 have unquestionably belonged to the Milton Keynes based team and their driver Sebastian Vettel who has not only become the youngest ever double world champion but has also steered his team to back to back constructors' glory along with the invaluable contribution from team mate Mark Webber.
During the past 40 races a Red Bull car has taken 23 victories with a further ten podiums to add to this phenomenal statistic. An Adrian Newey designed car has also crossed the line first thirteen times out of a possible previous 20 while taking a mind boggling 25 podiums so far this season. When you look at these statistic's its little wonder on how Red Bull have appeared to create a new dynasty in Formula 1.
"When you start winning you are very popular, but when you win repeatedly you become very unpopular,'' Horner told the Daily Express. That's the nature of sport, the nature of this business, and winning grands prix tends to make up for it to be honest.
"We're in people's sights, we know that. We're the benchmark, and with that comes a different pressure, with this year a different pressure to defend a championship.''
Red Bull seem to be going through the same through the same process Ferrari famously did during the years of the Michael Schumacher domination during 2000 – 2004, although the drinks company backed team still have a long way to go to achieve the same perception and legacy the prancing horse achieved back then.
Partly due to this Horner stated to the Daily Express that regardless of how convincingly his team wrapped up this season's championship doesn't change the threat that Ferrari and McLaren will pose next season and onwards.
"I think we've defended it more convincingly than when we won it last season, and it doesn't get any easier, '' said Horner. ''There are teams with tremendous resource who are very keen to get back on top, like Ferrari with their pedigree and heritage.''
"Then there's McLaren with their engineering resource. You only have to see the size and scale of their facility. But we can only focus on ourselves. We can't control what others are doing.''
